de la Brassinne, Thirion L, Horvat LI. A novel method of comparing the healing properties
of two hydrogels in chronic leg ulcers. J.Eur.Acad.Dermatol.Venereol. 2006;20(2):131-5.
In a comparison of the healing properties of Flaminal® and a hydrogel comparator, both surface
area and wound volume decreased over time, with wound volume being the first parameter to
change. Wound volume reduction was visible after just 7 days of treatment
with Flaminal®, whilst
wound surface reduction was noted after 14 days of treatment. Differences in wound volume
reduction between Flaminal® and the hydrogel was significantly greater with Flaminal® and
detected as early as day 7. Differences in surface reduction were also significantly greater with
Flaminal® and this difference was clearly apparent at day 28 with a reduction in surface area
of 63% in the Flaminal® group compared with 19% in the hydrogel group.
In both arms of the study patients were subject to bed rest. The only different intervention was
the gel dressing. It appears that the antimicrobial effect of Flaminal® promotes rapid healing.
